Overview: Starstech is an innovative and eco-friendly company based in Korea that focuses on creating sustainable products. Their main goal is developing fertilizers for agricultural use by repurposing starfishes. In addition to fertilizers, Starstech produces a plethora of other products these include de-icers made from starfish-derived calcium and skincare items with collagen from starfish. Unlike conventional de-icer these are non-corrosive and safer for vehicles during snowy weathers. Starstech’s mission is to utilize Korea’s abundant starfish population to help ocean sustainability.
I was impressed by their eco-friendly products and found it really unique to incorporate starfish into their products. Having always been drawn to quirky and unique items, I was highly eager to introduce the de-icers to my school and use the fertilizers for my plants at the green house. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to install the products due to high costs and need for administrative approval. My interview with the researcher and product manager was a great learning experience and it left a impression on me.
